Bonell spring core or pocket spring core?

Choosing the right mattress is important because it has a significant influence on the quality of sleep. Innerspring mattresses are among the most popular mattress types and are characterized by their stability and durability. There are three types of spring core: the Bonell spring core, the pocket spring core and the barrel pocket spring core.

What is the difference between Bonell and pocket spring core?

Advantages of the Bonell spring core

A mattress with a Bonell spring core is the cheapest type of spring mattress and is often used in box spring beds. The Bonell springs are connected at the top and bottom. This means that the mattress yields not only at individual points, but over the entire lying surface. The result is a soft, springy lying sensation that can be sufficient for people weighing up to around 100 kg.

However, the Bonell spring core also has limitations: As it does not offer point elasticity, the mattress does not adapt perfectly to the contours of the body. This can be a disadvantage for side sleepers, as areas such as the hips or shoulders require targeted support. In the long term, this can lead to tension or back pain.

Advantages of the pocket spring core

The pocket spring core mattress is a high-quality alternative to the Bonell spring core mattress. By packing each spring core in a fabric pocket, the pocket spring mattress achieves excellent point elasticity. It reacts specifically to pressure and supports body parts such as the head, neck, shoulders or hips with pinpoint accuracy.

In addition, a zone division enables optimum adaptation to the different requirements of the body zones. Pocket spring mattresses are available in different firmness levels and offer people of all weights the necessary support as well as a pleasantly soft base for lighter sleepers.

Which is better: Bonell spring core or pocket spring core?

Whether a Bonell or pocket spring mattress is better depends on the intended use. Pocket spring mattresses offer greater sleeping comfort and are particularly suitable for people with back problems or a higher body weight. They adapt individually and prevent excessive sinking. Bonell spring core mattresses, on the other hand, are surface-elastic and provide a softer lying sensation.

A bonell spring mattress is sufficient for occasional use, while a pocket spring mattress is suitable for long-term comfort.
